About 5 to 7 million people in Turkey are struggling with rare diseases and have difficulty in meeting treatment costs.
According to a study by the Health Economics and Policy Association (SEPD) in conjunction with the Rare Diseases Network health expenditures of families with rare diseases;
Families with rare disease;
* 39% had to go to a private hospital for treatment related to their rare disease,
* 35% can not buy drugs due to high prices,
* 47% stated that they did not receive any services.
According to the data, families allocate 30% of their average annual income to expenses associated with their rare diseases.
On the other hand, considering the data announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the health expenditure of individuals with rare diseases is 6 times the average health expenditure per person!
